Day 8: Hiroshima to Kyoto
Day 8 was the move from Hiroshima to Kyoto. The morning started at Hiroshima Station, and by late morning the trip had shifted to Kyoto Station and the next hotel base at The Thousand Kyoto.

The first Kyoto afternoon began close to the station side of the city. Higashi Hongan-ji was the first clear temple stop, with Kyoto Station, Kyoto Tower, and Kyoto Tower Sando forming the local orbit around the hotel.

The day did stretch beyond the station area, but only as far as the lower paths of Fushimi Inari. We saw the torii gates and shrine approach without turning it into the full hillside climb, which kept the first Kyoto day from becoming too much after the train from Hiroshima.

Dinner was at Tajimaya Premium Kyoto Eki Hachijoguchi, south of the station. Sukiyaki and shabu-shabu made it a more deliberate first Kyoto evening than the entry originally gave it credit for, but it was still anchored by places we could reach easily after the train day.
