Day 3: Arrival in Tokyo

Day 3 was arrival day in Japan. We came through Narita, shifted from airport mode into train mode, and made our way toward Tokyo.

The first base for the Japan part of the trip was Shinjuku. After two travel days, that made the rest of the day feel simple in the best way: get into the city, get oriented, and stay close to the hotel area.

There is always a strange little reset after a long trip, when the destination is suddenly real but your body has not fully caught up. Shinjuku was the first version of Japan we actually had in front of us, all around the station and hotel area, before the trip started moving west the next morning.
